In terms of varieties, in addition to hot-rolled coils, imports of other major varieties declined in November. Compared with the same period of last year, the growth of rebar, plate and steel pipe was the most obvious, and only semi-finished products showed a decline.
From the countries of origin (regions), imports from Central and South America, China, Turkey and Ukraine increased in November, while other major regions fell. Compared with the same period of last year, imports from major countries and regions have increased except Russia. In November, the United States imported 63,000 tons of steel from China, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%, an increase of 23.2%.
The latest import license shows that as of December 29, the number of US steel import licenses was 1.542 million tons in December, which is not much different from the same period in November. It is expected that US steel imports will remain at the level of November in December.
US steel imports fell for four consecutive months
According to data released by the US Department of Commerce, US steel imports in November 2010 were 1.619 million tons, up 29.6% year-on-year and 5.5% quarter-on-quarter, down four consecutive months. From January to November, the United States imported a total of 2001 million tons of steel, an increase of 49%.
