[China Superhard Materials Net Tian Di Shi Lei] On December 8-12, 2010, Mr. Niranjan Sahasrabudhe, Head of the Strategic Planner for the Fixed Abrasives and Thin Wheels of the Saint-Gobain India Branch, and Mr. Vispi B. Contractor, the Director of the Grindwell Production Plant Zhengzhou, Henan Province, which has the reputation of China's abrasives and abrasives, conducts business inspections and cooperates with the Sixth Institute of China Machinery to introduce abrasives and equipment technology. China Superhard Materials Network reporter interviewed them.
Reporter: As far as we know, the main purpose of Grindwell's visit to China is to introduce a fixed-hardening tunnel kiln. Can you tell us more about it?
Niranjan: As you know, the Saint-Gobain Abrasives business started with the acquisition of Norton. Although the abrasives business accounts for only a small portion of Saint-Gobain's output, it has many such plants around the world. The factory and the factory are in close contact and help each other. In recent years, the abrasives market and products in Europe and the United States have declined, but India and China continue to maintain their upward momentum. Especially in the Indian market last year, the demand for abrasives and abrasives soared. Grindwell was born in 1941 and has a 70-year history in the Indian abrasives market. In order to meet local demand, we need to further expand production capacity. After investigating production equipment in the United States, Europe and other countries, we decided to come to China to find equipment suppliers with the help of Saint-Gobain Abrasives (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and R&D Center. Because China and India are neighbors, there are many similarities between the abrasives production technology of the two countries, and the factory conditions are basically the same. Therefore, we hope to find a long-term cooperation equipment supplier in China. This is the main purpose of our trip.
Reporter: Just now you mentioned the Saint-Gobain R&D Center (Shanghai). Does India have such a research center?
Niranjan: Under construction, it is estimated that it will be put into use next year. When we refer to the abrasives R&D center, it generally refers to the research and testing of abrasive abrasive applications. Shanghai's R&D center is such a type. The research center in India is taking the direction of technological research with the help of American and European technology.
Reporter: Can you tell us about the development of the abrasive industry in India?
Niranjan: There are many developments in this. There are many types of abrasives, such as coated abrasives, bonded abrasives, and superhard products. If we talk about so many products, India's abrasives develop in different grades. Although some companies have begun to choose to use diamond and CBN instead of traditional processes, the whole market is on the rise, but the output value of superhard materials and products is still small compared to traditional abrasives, stone (marble, granite) and related cutting tools. And polishing products dominate the use of superhard materials. The development of bonded abrasives is relatively mature. Most of the products and application processes are relatively advanced in the world. At an early stage, it even dominated the development of other processes. The most important thing in production is the equipment. Many production equipments in India have reached the world advanced level, and the grinding equipment is the same. In the past 10 to 12 years, the company's production process and operational experience have been rapidly developed, and many of the world's advanced processes have been realized. Soon, in about 5 to 10 years, many Indian companies will have these advanced processes and use them for the production of grinding and cutting products. According to the development of the Indian automotive industry, the fixed abrasives will probably have a high speed. development of. Coated abrasives have just started in India, and they are a small part of the bonded abrasives. In other countries, such as Europe and the United States, coated abrasives are often used in some grinding processes. But in India, many machining uses inertia instead of fixed abrasives. However, with the development of the world automobile industry and the start of the Indian automobile industry, the use of coated abrasives will increase. In general, in the past two decades, India has become more and more demanding for abrasives, because with the increase of investment and the development of the Indian economy, various industries have been more or less developed, abrasive grinding It is no exception.
Reporter: What do you think about the Chinese abrasives market?
Niranjan: This question is harder to answer for me. As a user in India, I get a low-priced product, some even have no performance at all, but the price is absolutely cheap; as a Norton product manufacturer came to China, we saw high quality and low price Products - quality that fully meets demand and competitive prices. This is two different situations. We think this may still be a communication issue, and Indian customers have not found a suitable supplier or lack of linguistic support for negotiations with suppliers.

The booming Indian abrasives market – an interview with Saint-Gobain India
Editor's Note: China and India belong to the same developing country. They are geographically close and have a large population. They are also one of the four emerging BRIC countries in the world. A better understanding of neighboring countries helps to learn from each other and accelerate self-development.
