Regulating into paper tigers, accidents come true

The Shandong Provincial Government on the 23rd reported the major fire accidents of Shouguang Longyuan Food Co., Ltd. and the latest progress of the "11·19" major road traffic accident in Penglai City. At the briefing meeting, relevant leaders in Shandong Province believed that the safety management of the relevant departments was ineffective and bluntly stated that both accidents could have been avoided.

Two successive incidents in Shandong Province once again proved the famous "Murphy's Law." It is precisely due to the oversight of the supervision of many administrative supervision departments, which leads to relevant laws and regulations becoming “paper tigers”, and the production safety accident has become an inevitable tragedy.

The safe production of human lives must not lead to bloody GDP. However, in the face of economic interests, security has always been the object of sacrifice. Some enterprises disregard the personal safety of employees, and forced production and overloaded production under conditions where production conditions are not perfect and safety precautions are not in place. If the supervisory department does not take effective measures to stop these acts, it is to condone the law and commit crimes.

The painful lessons from successive events tell us that the supervision capabilities of some government departments are far from the security requirements. With respect to safety production laws and regulations and the requirements of higher authorities, some places shouted more slogans than did real work, and implemented conferences to implement conferences and documents. Some officials speak eloquently when talking about their achievements, and they push three obstacles and four when they talk about their responsibilities. They have no sense of responsibility. There is even no shortage of individual departments conniving at illegal activities for their own small interests, which leads to chaos such as "fishing law enforcement" and "backing by mountains".

Shandong Province clearly stated that these two accidents must be investigated for regulatory responsibility, in line with the spirit of the rule of law, and also conducive to the relevant management departments to improve their sense of purpose and strictly fulfill their responsibilities. Only by making safety production laws and regulations a "charged high-voltage line" can a similar tragedy be repeated.
