High-speed amphibious vehicle: 10 seconds into water mode

Gibbs Amphibians of the United States designed a high-speed amphibious vehicle called "Phibian" with a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour (about 48 kilometers per hour). On the 8th, this amphibious vehicle grab was unveiled to the public before the annual meeting of the American Society of Naval Architects.

Gibbs stated that the amphibious vehicle Phibian has developed a water speed of up to 30 miles per hour, and land speeds can reach "high speeds." The company hopes Phibian will adopt a new design and a multi-million-dollar technology that will make this amphibious vehicle a "novelty" hat and pave the way for law enforcement and the military.

Gibbs Chairman Neil Jenkins pointed out that Phibian was developed specifically for the emergency department and the military to perform a variety of tasks. He said: "Recent natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and other parts of Asia, as well as Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, indicate that there is an urgent need for a highly versatile amphibious vehicle like Phibian. ”

With just one push of a button, the Phibian's wheels can be retracted in less than 10 seconds. The water jet engine then replaces the engine in land mode. The unique design of the wheel telescopic system and hull means that Phibian is a speedboat developed for specific purposes. The retractable suspension system provides additional driving and handling performance as it travels on land, and reduces resistance as it travels through the water. At present, this system has already applied for a patent.

Phibian uses carbon fiber material, light weight, easy to transport, distance up to 16 inches (about 40 cm), so off-road performance. Jenkins said Phibian has a variety of capabilities and is the vehicle of choice for performing all-terrain rescue missions. This amphibious vehicle can find its own position in the police force and the army to perform tasks such as landing on the beach or crossing the river. In addition, Gibbs also developed a sister article of Phibian - the smaller Humdinga.

Gibbs has been developing amphibious vehicles and related technologies since 1997, investing more than 200 million U.S. dollars in automotive engineering and investing more than 2 million hours. In 2004, Sir Richard Branson drove the Gibbs-made Aquada amphibious vehicle to break the speed record across the English Channel, which took more than four hours earlier than the original record.

However, Gibbs's amphibious vehicle has always left a "novelty" impression, ignoring its practicality. The newly developed Phibian will help Gibbs to remove the hat. The amphibious vehicle can carry 3 crew members and 12 passengers. The cargo volume reaches 3,307 pounds (about 1,500 kilograms) and there are doors on both sides. Gibbs Kottakikis of Gibbs Company stated that the company has not finalized the price of Phibian and the specific specifications have not yet been confirmed, but customers in the United States and other regions have shown great interest in this amphibious vehicle.
