The European Institute of Powder Metallurgy (EPMA) will launch an eight-month project in September, mainly on cemented giga-week ultrasonic fatigue testing. Some of the industry's leading academic institutions, such as the Technical University of Vienna, CEIT in San Sebastian, Spain, and the UK National Physics Laboratory in London, will collaborate on this research, and some industry companies will assist in the selection of relevant raw materials. .
The test range also includes subsequent residual stresses and a series of further tests and characterization tests. EPMA said the project will benefit carbide manufacturers and their customers, helping them produce higher-intensity fatigue load components.
