When the sugar beet has entered a period of vigorous growth, the weight of the roots is increasing and the sugar content is gradually increasing. Many plots are affected by the luxuriance of stems and leaves, the ridges of the leaves, and the inability to carry out top dressing. At this time, root dressing can be performed.

Top dressing is to spray the fertilizer-containing solution directly onto the leaves. There are many advantages of top dressing beetroot: First, it can be directly absorbed through the leaves to avoid the loss of nutrients. According to the test, the same amount of chemical fertilizer is applied, and the effect of increasing the yield of root dressing is 6-7 times higher than that of soil fertilization. Second, the absorption of nutrients by the leaves is faster than the roots. Third, it is not affected by climatic conditions, and can overcome the increase in soil solution concentration caused by soil water shortage when fertilizing soil, and aggravate the disadvantages of drought. Fourth, the amount of fertilizer used for top dressing is small, and the effect of increasing yield is significant. The sugar beet is topdressed in the sugar accumulation period. The experiment shows that the root yield can be increased by 10%-20%, the sugar content can be increased by 0.2-0.8%, and the sugar yield can be increased by 10-15%.

Beetroot top dressing should be carried out one month before harvest, and the technical points are as follows:

First, determine and choose the type and concentration of fertilizer used. If the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are insufficient, a leachate of 0.3% urea, 0.6-1% potassium salt and 2-3% concentration of superphosphate may be used. In the absence of trace element fertilizer, a solution of borax, copper sulfate, sulfate, zinc sulfate or the like in a concentration of 0.05-0.1% may be used.

Second, after determining the type and ratio of fertilizer, the fertilizer solution is prepared one day before topdressing to fully dissolve it.

Third, the amount of beet root external dressing solution. It is more appropriate to make the solution float on the blade without dripping onto the ground. Generally, 50-60 kg of fertilizer solution is used per mu.

Fourth, we must choose sunny and windless weather, and the dew will be dried. At high temperatures, hot noon or when the leaves are wilting, the leaf's fattening effect is weak. It is necessary to miss this time and wait until the leaves return to normal before performing root dressing. For example, if the plot is severely de-fertilized, it can be sprayed again after 7 days.
