Application of SolidWorks in the design and manufacture of rolling mill bearing housing

SolidWorks is the current mainstream 3D CAD software, which is powerful. This paper takes the bearing housing of the rolling mill roller in the metallurgical industry as an example to illustrate some applications of SolidWorks.

(1) Solid modeling The three-dimensional solid modeling of the rolling mill chock is realized by operations such as cutting, stretching, rotating, arraying and punching. The solid model of the bearing housing is shown in Fig. 1.

(2) Model before the finite element analysis The rolling bearing housing of the rolling mill is mainly subjected to the radial rolling force applied by the roller to the lower half of the cylindrical surface of the bearing hole. At this time, the bearing hole of the SolidWorks "split line" command is used. The cylindrical surface is divided into two parts, the upper part and the lower part, as shown in Fig. 2. Then, the load can be applied to the lower half of the cylindrical surface of the bearing bore of the bearing housing to prepare for the finite element analysis.

(3) Generate Engineering Drawings SolidWorks provides commands for generating complete, shop-accepted detailed engineering drawings. The engineering drawings are fully correlated. When the physical model is modified, the engineering drawings are automatically updated. Generating drawing commands saves designers a lot of time by eliminating the need for AutoCAD software to draw floor plans step by step.

(4) Weighing the three-dimensional solid model of the bearing seat. Selecting the “mass attribute”—the density of the input bearing seat material—the weight of the bearing seat is 1426.14kg, and the weight of the bearing seat can be used as a basic basis for the designer to save materials. In addition, the seller can make a more accurate quotation.

(5) Call Toolbox plug-in SolidWorks plug-in Toolbox is a standard parts library, including bearings, nuts, screws, pins, gears and other parts. With the Toolbox plug-in, bearings, screws and other parts can be imported to complete the assembly of the rolling mill housing. No additional drawing of the model drawings of these parts is required, which improves the modeling efficiency.
